About H.A.S. Properties Application Process

1. Preliminary Application Packets may be picked up any time and returned to a drop box located in the foyer of the main office in Madison Tower. If mailing or dropping off an application, you must include copies of current state-issued picture IDs for all adults and Social Security cards for all adults and children on the application.

2. To determine program eligibility, you must fulfill some requirements:

  • All information required in the application including picture ID must be received by the office.
  • A Request for Criminal Background Check (CBC) report must be filled out and signed by each family member 17 .5 years of age and older.
  • A credit check will be completed.
  • For public housing, three years' previous housing references must be verified. However, if you are unwilling or unable to provide housing history, you can still apply for Section 8.

3. The entire process can take approximately 3 months to two years, depending on whether you're requesting Public Housing or Section 8. Before receiving assistance, you will have an appointment to sign additional papers and verify your income, assets and other miscellaneous information.
